Non Sporting Dog Breeds

The variety of dog breeds forming the Non-Sporting Group is really diverse. Here most interesting dog breeds of different appearances and characters can be found, so no general description will probably do. In this article we shall probably just review most popular representatives of the group and let you make conclusions for yourself.

Standard Poodles are the most intelligent and teachable not only among their close relatives, Miniature Poodles (included in this very group) and Toy Poodles (classified as a Toy Dog Breed), but also among all other dog breeds. These elegant and athletic-looking dogs could put an impressive list of jobs on their career history: standard Poodles are used for retrieving fowl from water, searching truffles, giving performances in circus and obedience competitions, etc. They will also be glad to accompany owners doing sport.

Shar-Peis are just irresistible with their loose skin that looks like wrinkles, yet protects them from attacks of more aggressive dog breeds. Widely known as Chinese Fighting Dogs, Shar-Peis are not at all battlesome but can be dangerous opponents if disturbed. Stubbornness sometimes makes obedience training of this dog breed a challenging affair. Shar Peis are hunting and herding dogs, too.

Sportive and lively Bulldogs grow up to become even-tempered and good-natured adult dogs that in spite of their gloomy appearance make gentle and affectionate family pets. English Bulldogs are kind of a symbol of Great Britain. Don't deprive this dog breed of your attention and it will pay you back with love and loyalty.

Boston Terriers may mislead you with the name, however, this is not a Terrier Dog Breed. Their ancestors include English and French Bulldogs and white Bull Terriers. The dog breed is perfect for older people as Bostons are easy to look after, playful, trainable and make great companions.

Another great indoor dog breed is the French Bulldog. Though being rather active Frenchies don't require much exercise apart from regular daily walks keeping them fit and preventing excessive weight gaining. It is one of the few dog breeds that cannot swim so watch them not to fall down in your pool.

Bright looks and open-mindness makes Dalmatians another popular dog breed of the group. These dogs are very enduring and will love taking part in sport activities like jogging and hiking. They have also proved to be great herding sheep, guarding property, assisting hunters and even starring in feature films.
